COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Shriners Children’s hosted a special Hospital Experience in Dodge City that brought together 17 young patients with football players, band members, and cheerleaders ahead of the Kansas Shrine Bowl — nearly 400 participants gained a firsthand look at the challenges kids face with prosthetic legs and wheelchairs.  KWCH
  • The remains of U.S. Army Air Forces 1st Lt. Herbert G. Tennyson, 24, returned to Wichita Friday morning with a water cannon salute as his aircraft landed at Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport. He will be buried with full military honors at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 27 at Old Mission Cemetery next to his wife, Jean.  KWCH
  • Today, a local lemonade stand marks its ten-year anniversary by opening only on the longest day and has raised over $10,000 for the Alzheimer's Association.  KAKE

  • After storms damaged many Kansas homes, contractor Craig Dingman of Dingers Roofing and Construction said homeowners should hire licensed, insured professionals—using local listings and the Better Business Bureau—to ensure safe storm-damage repairs.  KWCH

  • A man was injured in a shooting on June 20 — a Wichita police officer was involved and authorities are investigating the incident.  KWCH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • More than 450 Vietnam-era veterans were honored Friday at Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita — ceremonies that marked 50 years since the Vietnam War ended. Each veteran received a commemorative lapel pin as part of a multi-year effort to give them overdue recognition.  KWCH
  • City officials announced downtown Wichita will soon start charging for parking—this change aims to improve parking management and reduce congestion. Local drivers and visitors will see the new system in effect once it launches.  KWCH
