  • Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in northeast Wichita provides food and hygiene supplies to families every month through partnerships with the Kansas Food Bank and Simply Hygiene. The church plans to expand its services with a full-time pantry and commissary (to offer more frequent, consistent care).  The Voice

CULTURE NEWS

  • Choose Newton is holding a contest inviting 14 local artists to each design 4 playing cards featuring historic Newton landmarks — submissions from artists in Newton and Harvey County are accepted until Jan. 26, and the project is inspired by a similar Tacoma contest aimed at preserving local history.  KWCH

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kenyon Giles scored a career-high 33 points as Wichita State beat North Texas 78-67 on Sunday at Charles Koch Arena — the team played without starting wing TJ Williams. Wichita State now prepares for a Florida road trip starting Thursday at Florida Atlantic.  KWCH
  • Maxim Naumov raced through the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in St. Louis on Jan. 10 and will join Team USA for the Winter Olympics starting Feb. 6 in Italy. He honors his late parents (former champions and coaches) who died in a plane crash last year.  KWCH
