The KSHSAA is moving the boys state soccer championships from Wichita to Topeka

If you're headed to the boys state soccer finals Nov. 7, plan on Topeka, not Wichita. The KSHSAA announced Thursday that the games will be played at Hummer Sports Park instead of Scheels Stryker Sports Complex, KSNT reports. The move follows the Oct. 17 incident at Stryker, where Wichita police say a pickup truck driver drove through a soccer game. Cole Adrian, 6, and Nicholas Schafer, 35, died.

“We recognize that the events of two weeks ago have deeply affected many within our membership. Relocating this year's championship event is a gesture of respect for those communities and all who continue to feel the impact of that tragedy.”
The schedule stays the same, KSNT and the Salina Post report, and WIBW lists the game times. The Salina Post says KSHSAA talked with Stryker and Visit Wichita, and all sides expressed understanding and support.
