COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Junior League of Wichita hosted its water play cascades event yesterday at a local park, inviting kids + families to enjoy interactive outdoor water features. The activity aimed to strengthen community bonds and offer a refreshing experience. KWCH
- ➤ KSN telethons raised over $27,000 for Humankind Ministries’ Operation Holiday, which gives food, gifts and other items to people in need during the holidays. The funds will help local families enjoy a safer season. KSN
- ➤ Jersey Mike’s franchise owner Chris Stong is partnering with the Kansas Food Bank to run a holiday can drive from Wednesday through Sunday. Customers can donate nonperishable food for a free sub card at three Wichita locations on Kansas Highway 96 and Greenwich Road, Maize Road near 29th Street North, and in Derby — Stong will match donations with $2 per can up to 1,000 cans to help local pantries through Christmas. - ➤ The Carl G. Brewer Community Center will reopen Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with new amenities including a modern kitchen, three gyms, and added bathrooms, expanding its space from 18,000 sqft to over 30,000 sqft while offering classes, leagues, and child programs for all ages. KSN
- ➤ Close friends honored Garden City air traffic controller Zach Scheiman on Tuesday for his legacy, remembering his more than 10 years guiding planes at Garden City Regional Airport and his service in Ukraine. His father has established a donation fund to support Wings of Rescue in his memory. KSN

- ➤ Bank of America, Merrill, and Bank of America Private Bank cardholders get free museum admission through Museums on Us this weekend (available on the first full weekend each month). - ➤ Wichita school district vacated Chester I. Lewis over Christmas break after an inspection found severe cracks in support pillars, and moved students to the former Cleaveland Traditional Magnet Elementary School building until classes resume Jan. 5. A community meeting is set Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Tabernacle Bible Church. KSN

- ➤ K-State football coach Chris Klieman retired after seven seasons with a 54-37 record & former quarterback Collin Klein was named the Wildcats' head coach, with the news conference held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Manhattan. KWCH
- ➤ Kansas State football coach Chris Klieman announced his retirement on Wednesday due to personal health concerns and a wish to spend more time with his family. A press conference at 4 p.m. today may reveal details including new coach Collin Klein (former quarterback and offensive coordinator). KSN
