  • Abilene resident Kristal Pena received a Citizen Life Saving Award Tuesday from the Abilene Police for saving a 10-year-old who was choking on food at a bus stop on November 10—her quick use of the Heimlich maneuver helped the child breathe again.  KWCH
  • AAA said nearly 800,000 Kansans will travel by road and air for Thanksgiving—Sunday is expected to see heavy congestion as most plan to return home. Drivers are urged to plan ahead to ensure safe journeys.  FOX Kansas
  • The Ember Hope National Adoption Day ceremony at Exploration Place will finalize 37 adoptions into 21 families on Saturday—serving children from Sedgwick County and Manhattan. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local developers proposed an entertainment development near K-96 + Greenwich yesterday, saying the plan will boost leisure options and local business. The project will move forward after community review and final approvals.  KWCH
  • VIVRE Espresso + Bubbles, a locally owned spot that serves wine, champagne, coffee and espresso with small bites, will soon open at 2331 N. Ridge Road in northwest Wichita near 37th and Ridge Road. The shop will begin serving customers in January 2026.  Wichita By E.B.

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new season of Netflix’s Squid Game: The Challenge premiered earlier this month and features Kansas contestants competing in physical and mental challenges to win $4.5 million — 12 News reporter Keenan Penn II interviewed contestant Trinity Savon, who lived briefly in Wichita and attended Sterling College.  KWCH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wichita Public Schools is asking for donations to brighten the holidays for homeless children in the McKinney-Vento program. Items such as board games, dolls and gift cards can be dropped off at the Alvin Morris Administrative Center (903 S. Edgemoor St.), which is closed November 26 through 28.  KSN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Wichita and Sedgwick County are asking residents to help shape Imagine ICT!, a year-long parks master plan that will guide local green spaces and programs. Residents will offer input at pop-up events, an open house and through mailed surveys—events include Winter Wonderland on Dec. 5 at 601 E. Douglas and sessions at Brewer Community Center, Sam’s Club, Watson’s Christmas Express and Walmart in December and January.  KNSS

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wichita nurses reacted to a new cap on nursing degree programs that was announced on November 25 — they said the limit could reduce the number of new nurses available to meet community healthcare needs.  KWCH

SPORTS NEWS

  • The city council may approve a $191 million athletic district at K-96 and Greenwich behind Academy Sports on December 9. The proposed project will include a new Wichita State tennis facility with 12 outdoor and 6 climate-controlled courts—along with venues for synthetic ice-skating, indoor golf, surfing, interactive baseball, go-kart racing and a 150-unit resort hotel.  KNSS
