COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Great Plains Nature Center invites volunteers to help with trail cleanup, nest maintenance and plant cleanout during its annual Fall Work Day on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at 6232 E. 29th St. North—RSVP is required by Wednesday and lunch is provided.  KSN
  • Peck Pig Palace, a pig rescue that has cared for abandoned potbelly pigs for over 13 years, is accepting leftover pumpkin donations to help feed its residents—donations will support the shelter's ongoing care.  KAKE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, SNAP benefits are not distributed in November because of federal funding challenges, and Wichita State’s Student Government has allocated additional funds for the Shocker Support Locker to help students facing food insecurity—though the locker will reopen on November 10.  The Sunflower

FINANCE NEWS

  • Kansas Lottery player and Staff Sergeant Francisco Erives from Jetmore won $1 million in the final NASCAR Powerball Playoff drawing held Sunday at Phoenix Raceway in Phoenix plus he said he will use his winnings to help his family.  KWCH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A water main break overnight near downtown Wichita is causing traffic to be redirected at the intersection of Central and Washington — crews are assessing damage while eastbound lanes on Central remain closed for repairs.  KWCH

SPORTS NEWS

  • Over the weekend, Flint Hills National Golf Club hosted the Kansas Junior Cup where 24 young golfers raised $53,000 in a charity event led by Kaden Leivian (15) to give back to the community (supporting the American Junior Golf Association, Kansas Gold Foundation, and Ronald McDonald House of Wichita).  KWCH
  • The Wichita Rowing Association is hosting its 34th Annual Frostbite Regatta in Wichita—rowers from around the region will compete in this upcoming event.  KWCH
