- ➤ Wichita’s 2025 Veterans Day Parade will honor Warren Richard Pierce—a Korean War veteran and survivor of the Chosin Reservoir battle—and will begin at 11 a.m. on November 8 from Main and Central, moving to Exploration Place where an after-event will run from 1 to 3 p.m. Registration is free and must be submitted by Sunday. - ➤ Sedgwick County will host a ribbon-cutting on Monday at 9 a.m. at Sedgwick County Park to unveil its new outdoor fitness area called The Get Active in Nature (G.A.I.N.) Exercise Park, which has 11 exercise stations (five are wheelchair accessible) to help older adults stay active. KSN
- ➤ Wichita native Joe Walsh announced his VetsAid charity concert will take place on November 15 to support local nonprofits including KanVets United—formed during COVID-19 to help homeless veterans. The event will provide at least $5,000 along with 10 tickets and 2 VIP passes—resources to help more than 20 veterans with essential needs. KWCH
- ➤ Officials in Wichita implemented new trick-or-treat safety measures in the College Hill neighborhood—volunteer patrols and improved street lighting—to help children trick-or-treat safely this Halloween. KWCH

- ➤ Ladonna Collins brought her car to Just Right Auto Repair in Wichita for an oil leak fix but found extra damage and 1,500 added miles when she picked it up—after a long wait and a fired employee, she finally received the $9,000 agreed for repairs. KWCH
- ➤ Freddy’s, the Wichita-based chain known for its steakburgers and frozen custard, is opening its 10th location today in Andover off U.S. Highway 54 and Yorktown Street near the YMCA—offering indoor seating for 40 and drive-thru service. The restaurant will operate from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. KSN

- ➤ Kansas Education Commissioner Dr. Randy Watson announced that three elementary schools—McLean Science Technology Magnet, Sterling Grade School, and Jefferson West Elementary School—earned the 2025 National Blue Ribbon School award for exemplary performance. The award recognizes outstanding results in state assessments and nationally normed tests. KNSS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sedgwick County commissioners are reviewing funding for 19 senior centers that provide meals, exercise classes, and transportation for people 55 and up—staff will present new performance-based funding models by next year's budget after adding $50,000 to help meet rising costs and community demand. - ➤ If the government does not reach a deal by October 28th, more than 180,000 Kansans will face hunger as SNAP benefits may stop, leaving families without necessary food support. Tia Bivens, who began receiving benefits in August, worries for her family—relying on SNAP help and the Table of Hope pantry amid rising grocery prices. FOX Kansas
