- ➤ Veterans restored a World War I biplane to honor Wichita Medal of Honor recipient Erwin R. Bleckley— the aircraft was purchased in spring 2021 and arrived in Wichita just after Memorial Day. KAKE
- ➤ On Monday night, four Wichita teens completed the One Heart Project and received certifications that taught life skills, job readiness, and re-entry support for those in the juvenile justice system — a program offered by the Urban League of Kansas. The program will start its next cohort on Oct. 6 in Wichita with 12 students at Marshall Middle School and Sowers Alternative High School. KSN
- ➤ Bike Walk Wichita completed a 418-mile bike ride from the Colorado border to the Missouri border over the weekend to raise $4,000 for Kansas' refugee community. The ride lasted from 7:41 a.m. until 2:53 a.m. KWCH
- ➤ Abel Frederic launched Promise on the Plains to support small nonprofits in Wichita with low-barrier grants of $2,500 — $10,000 that fund programs such as boxing gyms, farms, and after-school centers. The program will open applications in April, close in May, and announce recipients in June after review by a volunteer panel. The Voice

- ➤ The Wichita Art Museum opened its doors 90 years ago on Sunday, September 22nd at 3:00 p.m. — the Art Deco building, designed by Clarence Stein and gifted by Louise Caldwell Murdock, has grown into a cultural hub in Wichita featuring the renowned Roland P. Murdock Collection. KNSS

- ➤ Kansas sorghum farmers recorded a 23% larger harvest thanks to increased rain and improved drought conditions across 80% of the state—yet China’s retaliatory tariffs have slashed prices from around $12.30 per hundredweight to about $3 per bushel. Farmers must now rely on alternative markets to sell their record yield. KMUW

- ➤ Today, the Wichita City Council is holding a workshop to review a debrief on the fireworks season, consider a possible hotel license, and plan future economic development — steps that will impact upcoming projects. Mayor Lily Wu also invited public input for choosing a new City Manager, with a survey closing October 8. KNSS
- ➤ The federal government has withheld $10.4 million from Kansas SNAP funds because the state failed to turn over data—data that include recipients' names, birthdays, addresses and Social Security numbers. Attorney General Kobach sued Gov. Kelly earlier this month, and Kansas plans to appeal to recover the funds. The Beacon

- ➤ The New World screw worm was confirmed 70 miles south of the border in Nuevo Leon, raising alarm among Wichita cattle producers as the Kansas Livestock Association warned it could worsen already low herd numbers. The USDA is set to invest $100 million in screening technology — while urging Mexico to strengthen its measures against the parasite. KWCH
- ➤ More than 85,000 shrimp packages sold at Kroger have been recalled because they may be contaminated with cesium-137—an issue found by the FDA—and the recall covered both raw and cooked shrimp sold from June 12 to Sept. 17 in several states including Kansas. KSN
