COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Firefighters from Kansas and nearby states climbed 110 floors at the Wichita 9/11 Memorial Climb on Sunday to honor the sacrifice of over 300 firefighters who died on Sept. 11.  KSN
  • Firefighters from Kansas and nearby states climbed 110 floors in Wichita on Sunday to honor more than 300 fallen firefighters from Sept. 11, 2001 — mimicking the historic ascent since no local building reaches that height. For the first time, civilians joined the event, and participants completed 42 flights during their second trip.  KSN

CRIME NEWS

  • Cure Violence ICT is working in Wichita to stop gun violence — supported by KWCH and DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers, the group is visiting neighborhoods to ask residents to report issues and help break the cycle of violence.  KWCH

CULTURE NEWS

  • After his performance at the Kansas State Fair on Friday, rapper Ludacris visited Sunflour Cafe and Collective in west Wichita—workers said he was friendly and respectful while enjoying his tofu scramble and power oats.  KWCH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Department of Education announced it cut $350 million from Hispanic-Serving Institutions — colleges with 25% or more Latino students — a decision that may limit opportunities for millions nationwide. In Wichita, local school WSU Tech confirmed it does not receive this designated funding but remains committed to supporting its diverse student body.  KWCH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city will begin repairs on southbound Woodlawn today, which will close the road south of Central for about one week—local drivers must detour using Central, Oliver, and Douglas. Northbound Woodlawn will close north of Douglas Monday, September 22 for pipe and pavement repairs.  KNSS

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Wichita’s Most Liked Donut tournament championship now has two local favorites—Donut Palace and Crispy Donuts—competing after a bracket of 16 establishments. Votes start today on Wichita By E.B.'s Facebook page for the winning donut.  Wichita By E.B.
