CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Eisenhower High School in Goddard went into a short lock-out Friday morning after a student reported a false gun threat from a message believed to be sent by an Eisenhower Middle student—police found no gun and classes resumed quickly. KWCH

- ➤ The Atlanta band Dropsonic performed its first Wichita show in over 15 years Friday at Kirby’s Beer Store—sharing the bill with Oklahoma City’s Traindodge and local groups Daikini and Milkwave. Vocalist Dan Dixon said the reunion followed a period of reissuing the band’s albums on vinyl during the pandemic and hiring new drummer Chandler Rentz. KMUW
- ➤ Today, the City of Wichita announced that Candy Taylor—who has 17 years of museum experience, including as director of the Comanche Nation Museum—will serve as Executive Director of the Mid-America All-Indian Museum starting October 13; she will lead efforts to educate the public about Native American culture. - ➤ City officials began a fall cleanup in downtown Wichita yesterday—teams cleared leaves and debris from sidewalks and streets. They said the effort will continue through the weekend. KWCH
- ➤ Former Wichita air traffic controller Bruce Despommier recalled his work in the control tower on Sept. 11 when reports came in of a plane striking the World Trade Center — he explained that controllers had to guide a rush of aircraft to land safely amid a sudden ground stop and limited space in Wichita. - ➤ Governor Laura Kelly ordered flags to be lowered at half-staff from Sept. 12 until sundown on Sept. 14 to honor Charlie Kirk, Minnesota Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman—and all victims and survivors of political violence. KSN

- ➤ A Kansas nurse, Amy Siple, was disciplined by the state Board of Nursing for practicing without a valid license after she missed her renewal deadline by six months while caring for her sick husband—she plans to appeal the ruling as lawmakers review board practices. KWCH
