ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Officials evacuated the Cottonwood building at the Kansas State Fair after a dangerous gas buildup was detected, and the Hutchinson Fire Department is pumping fresh air into the building—officials will find and control the leak before the food court reopens.  KWCH

  • BBQ Express opened on Wichita’s northeast side in April and serves fall-off-the-bone smoked meat that reflects owner Terry Wilson’s value of family tradition and his Oklahoma roots. The restaurant, located in a former bowling alley, offers meals made with choice cuts and slow-smoked meats—bringing a quality dining option to the area.  The Voice

  • At Regal Warren East on Friday night the film Blair showed lots of blood and scares while using Wichita State University as a backdrop—director Troy Andrews said the slasher movie is the first in a trilogy and he is now filming a prequel to explain its dark turn.  The Voice

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Many lawmakers in different states are planning to stop the clock changes when daylight saving time ends on November 2—Congress must give its approval. In Kansas, a Senate bill for permanent standard time passed and will be discussed by the House in January 2026—final votes remain pending.  KSN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kansas health officials warn doctors and the public about New World screwworm — a parasite from Central America and Mexico — which can cause dangerous, painful wounds if not treated. They advise travelers to cover open wounds and use insect repellent, though residents are safe at home.  KSN

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kansas football lost to Missouri 42—31 in Saturday's Border Showdown after a strong 21—6 lead, as Missouri rallied with key plays by quarterback Beau Pribula and receiver Kevin Coleman. The Jayhawks are on a bye this week and will host West Virginia on September 20.  KWCH
  • After a record two-hour 14-minute rain delay, the Wichita Wind Surge lost 6 to 1 to the Tulsa Drillers in a shortened seven-inning game on Friday night at Equity Bank Park—dropping them two games behind in the playoff race as both clubs are tied 11 to 11 in their season series.  KSN
