  • Wichita community members gathered Wednesday evening in the Nomar District to hold a peace rally after three deadly shootings occurred on Labor Day — local leaders and Cure Violence ICT urged residents to take steps to protect youth from rising gun violence.  FOX Kansas

CRIME NEWS

  • Isaiah Langkiet (24) is charged with first-degree murder after his sister, Elvira Langkiet (64), died from a stabbing on Saturday in the 800 block of south Fern near Kellogg and Seneca.  KNSS
  • A man was charged with first-degree murder after officers responded to a call on the 800 block of S. Fern St just before 9 a.m. on Saturday and the victim, Elvera Langkiet, died from her injuries Wednesday night — Isaiah Langkiet, 24, made his first court appearance Thursday and faces a next hearing on Sept. 15 with a bond set at $250,000.  KSN
  • Wichita police arrested a suspect in connection with the deadly Old Town shooting on September 4th—and the investigation is ongoing as they gather further evidence.  KWCH
  • A 21-year-old man was arrested on first-degree murder charges after fatally shooting 23-year-old D’Andre Rubio in Old Town near Douglas — Rock Island on Labor Day at 1:40 a.m., police said a disturbance took place before the shooting and he was booked into Sedgwick County Jail.  KNSS
  • James Sawyer, a 21-year-old man from Wichita, pleaded guilty to fatally shooting 34-year-old Daniel McPherson in a church parking lot in 2023 and was arrested in Oklahoma in January before a judge sentenced him to 31 years in prison on Thursday—he remains in custody.  KWCH

  • Elyria Christian School canceled classes yesterday after storm damage affected the campus. School officials said they will inspect the building and announce when classes will resume.  KWCH
