- ➤ Local businessman Phil Ruffin is developing Gilley's, a new casino and entertainment complex in Park City that will open December 15. The venue will feature a gambling hall with 1,000 horse racing machines, live music, restaurants and arcade games, and it will hold on-site interviews on September 12 and 13—offering new job opportunities in the region. - ➤ A preliminary hearing saw Judge Tyler Roush deny teen Jaden Watts’ self-defense motion in a March shooting that killed Demarc Burgess in southeast Wichita—he remains jailed on a $1 million bond—and his arraignment is set for Sept. 11. KSN
- ➤ A Hutchinson man was charged with attempted first-degree homicide for striking a pedestrian on the sidewalk at around 9 a.m. in the 300 block of East 3rd Avenue—officers identified him as 41-year-old Jeffrey McCaskey who knew the victim. KWCH

- ➤ The FDA announced 26,460 six-ounce packages of AquaStar cocktail shrimp sold at Walmart from July 31 to August 16 are being recalled after tests found cesium-137—Kansas shoppers should return or discard the product, and no illnesses have been reported. KSN
- ➤ Taylor Fresh Foods announced it is recalling its Taylor Farms Honey Balsamic Salad Kit sold in Kansas and 24 other states after the kits mistakenly include Asian Sesame Ginger dressing that may expose consumers to undeclared sesame and soy allergens - consumers should discard the kits and seek a refund as no illness has been reported.
