  • The Kansas Humane Society in Wichita is receiving a $130,000 grant from Lowe’s to double its laundry capacity and renovate its Volunteer Center — Lowe’s staff and local volunteers helped with painting and adding cabinets to update the shelter.  KSN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Tuesday, August 26th, 'Steve & Ted in the Morning' celebrated its 7,000th broadcast on KNSS with special guests including Kansas City Chiefs play-by-play Mitch Holthus and Wichita leaders, while co-host Steve McIntosh prepares to retire at the end of the year after 27 years on air. This milestone marks a significant chapter in Wichita radio and honors a long-standing partnership that has connected locally for decades.  KNSS

CRIME NEWS

  • A local business lost a lot of money when a scammer took over a real email account to send a false wire transfer request, and the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office warned businesses to call trusted contacts to verify transfers—reminding everyone to stay alert to evolving cyber scams.  KSN

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A ceremony was held Tuesday morning in downtown Wichita as leaders placed the final beam for the new Wichita Biomedical Campus—this $300 million project is a partnership among Wichita State University, WSU Tech, and the University of Kansas and will open in phases with Phase 1 coming in 2027.  KSN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Representative Nick Hoheisel is demanding answers about Academy Sports collecting a 1% tax after the K-96 Star CID ended in 2022—$300k to $400k was gathered because the state claims it sent notices and the tax was still charged until this summer, and officials are set to look into the issue further.  FOX Kansas
  • The Wichita City Council approved the 2026 budget topping $1 billion with a vote of six to one on Tuesday — Mayor Lily Wu was the only council member to oppose it. The budget, shaped by community input and an online tool, will lower the mill levy rate as property values are up by an average of 8.7 percent.  KWCH
