Wichita’s College Hill neighborhood announced Halloween safety plans for Oct.
31 — barricades will be active on several blocks from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and no vehicles will be allowed during that time; residents can ask questions at a meeting on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. at East Heights United Methodist Church.
A Wichita mother retracted a viral post that falsely claimed teens were kicked out of two YMCA locations over gun concerns and later met with North YMCA director Trey Hightower and the Cure Violence team to work on reinstating Teen Night— a free program for local youth.
The meeting clarified that the teens had only requested facility use and that removal was handled by WSU Police after safety warnings from parents rather than by an official criminal investigation.
Downtown Wichita's non-profit group is holding its third open house on Wednesday, August 27 from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. at 501 E.
Douglas Avenue to let residents review plans for downtown improvements—around 800 people joined previous events.
