- ➤ The Lionel D. Alford Branch reopened Saturday after a 5‑month closure for improvements in lighting, flooring, and interior spaces— including a new teen area and rearranged computer space—at 3447 S. Meridian. Drive‑up service remained available during the closure as staff prepared the updated facility. KSN
- ➤ Sedgwick County Zoo welcomed its fourth African elephant calf, Dakari, this morning at 7:24 a.m. as first-time mother Zuberi gave birth in a safe setting—staff said the pair are healthy and the zoo will allow them to bond in private before meeting visitors. Wichita By E.B.
- ➤ The Veterans Expo was held Saturday in northeast Wichita at Wichita State’s Hughes Metroplex at 29th and North Oliver from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with over 70 groups assisting veterans — organizers reported that the tenth expo drew the largest crowd to date. KSN

- ➤ Jess Chavez, 51, died Friday night when his motorcycle went through the median—hitting a guardrail, fence and landing in the roadway near I-235 and West Street at 11:25 p.m. as he was not wearing a helmet. KNSS

- ➤ Elisabeth’s Lounge in East Wichita opened in April to offer R&B music, African cuisine, and a welcoming space for the community, and it will host 90s R&B singer Adina Howard today with a day party starting at 5 p.m.—her set is scheduled at 8 p.m. The Voice

- ➤ Governor Laura Kelly ordered flags to be lowered at half-staff in Wichita and all court buildings to honor Judge Bruce Brown who died on Aug. 21 after an extended illness—flags will remain lowered until his interment is set and he is remembered for serving since his election in 2008. KWCH

- ➤ Wichita Public Schools & Sedgwick County Health Department hosted a vaccine clinic Saturday to give pre-K through high school students the required shots for Kansas schools. They will hold a second clinic on September 27 and require children to be up to date by October 20. KSN
- ➤ A Wichita music festival raised funds for a local woman who needed thousands for cancer medication—organizers said donations will help her cover urgent treatment costs. KWCH
