- ➤ A new African American-led foster care agency called Dorothy’s Lane opened its doors Friday in Wichita at 2201 E. 13th St.—the center offers child placement with mental health services, equine therapy, a private school, and food and clothing pantries, while CEO Carol Brewer said its goal is to reintegrate children with their families. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Southwest Airlines will add service from Wichita’s Eisenhower National Airport to Chicago Midway Airport on March 5, 2026 while ending its direct flights to St. Louis—passengers must now connect in Chicago since no other airline offers a direct option from Wichita. KSN
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Authorities charged a man with 2nd degree murder after a fatal incident at a Wichita truck stop on Aug. 18th, 2025—officials say the investigation is continuing. KWCH
- ➤ An Oklahoma truck driver, Travis Briscoe, was charged with second-degree murder after he backed his truck into 57-year-old Abdelmuttalib Mohammed at the Love’s Truck Stop parking lot on Aug. 13—his bond is set at $250,000 and his next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 2. KSN
- ➤ On August 18, 2005, BTK serial killer Dennis Rader was sentenced to 10 consecutive life sentences by Judge Greg Waller at the Sedgwick County district court in downtown Wichita—he faced sentencing for a series of murders that terrorized the community. KNSS
- ➤ Wichita police are asking for help to find Hercules Palmer—a 19-year-old boy with the mental capacity of a 6-year-old who was last seen in the 4600 block of E. 45th St. N wearing a Chiefs logo, black pants, and a black and white Nike backpack as he stands 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds.
