- ➤ Mark Reed, former director of the Sedgwick County Zoo, died on Friday after battling cancer at his home in Delaware. He retired in 2016 after a 45-year career that saw the zoo expand with the Reed Family Elephants of the Zambezi River Valley habitat, and a memorial has been established in his honor for the Our Growing Herd campaign. - ➤ Chock Chapple, the Golden Bachelorette winner, supported the Kansas Humane Society on Saturday in Wichita by spending time with adoptable dogs, cats, and bunnies, and by meeting fans and taking photos. Floor Coverings International Metro Wichita hosted the event — which accepted donations and offered to cover some adoption fees — to help boost awareness for local animal adoption. KSN

- ➤ A man pleaded guilty to murdering a Wichita woman who had been reported missing. KWCH
- ➤ Police say a woman died after being shot near Wesley Medical Center in the 500 block of N. Hillside around 7:15 p.m. Monday when she left her vehicle during an argument and was struck by gunfire from a white male suspect in blue clothing with long grayish-blond hair — the suspect fled on foot and is considered armed and dangerous. - ➤ After the primaries ended, campaigning began in Wichita for key city council and school board races. In city races, incumbent Mike Hoheisel faces Genevieve Howerton in District 3 while incumbent Maggie Ballard is challenged by Margaret Wheeler Shabazz and Brett Anderson in District 6—USD 259 school board races feature incumbent Julie Hedrick in District 2 against Brent Davis and Valerie Most as well as incumbent Hazel Stabler against Amy Warren. - ➤ At today's City Council meeting, Mayor Lily Wu said the Public Works Department will present a drought plan on August 19—similar to Oklahoma City's every-other-day watering schedule—as recent rain raised water levels at Cheney Reservoir. The council also heard reports on the city's budget and on sidewalks, trails, and paths. KNSS
