- ➤ Chock Chapple, the Golden Bachelorette winner, visited the Kansas Humane Society on Saturday to promote animal adoption and meet local fans — he shared his love for dogs, cats and bunnies while the event welcomed donations and community support. KSN

- ➤ Paleteria Chihuahua is a new ice cream shop at 500 E. Central Ave. that offers homemade ice cream—including flavors like Oreo and bubble gum—and Mexican-style paletas; it opened last Sunday—providing Wichita residents with fresh frozen treats and homemade agua frescas daily. KWCH
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Authorities issued a statewide Silver Alert for 69-year-old Roosevelt Sims, a Wichita man with dementia, who was last seen on August 2 at Wesley Medical Center after treatment for minor discomfort and is described as 6 feet tall, 170 pounds with long white hair in a ponytail and wearing a black ballcap (chicken chasing), a dark blue T-shirt, blue jeans and white shoes. - ➤ An off-duty Great Bend school resource officer intervened at Towne East mall when a fight among five teenagers sparked a shooting in the parking lot and he detained one suspect as Wichita police arrived—two teen victims, aged 15 and 17, were taken to the hospital in critical condition. KWCH
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Licensed animal facilities in rural and underserved Kansas communities are now eligible for state funding to cover most of spay and neuter surgery costs—up to 75% reimbursement with a $4,000 cap per applicant. Applications are accepted until Aug. 25 or until the funds run out, and the program aims to reduce pet overpopulation and related health issues. KSN
- ➤ Governor Laura Kelly asked FEMA for an extension until Sept. 20 so Kansas counties can complete damage assessments after severe storms hit from July 17—22; the storms brought large hail, damaging winds, tornadoes and heavy rain that led to widespread flooding of rivers and creeks. KSN
