- ➤ AmeriStarRail has proposed a new coast-to-coast train service called 'The Transcontinental Chief' that will run from Los Angeles to New York and stop in Kansas cities such as Garden City, Dodge City, Hutchinson, Newton, Topeka, Lawrence and Kansas City—this privately funded service will partner with Amtrak and offer truck drivers a place to rest to meet their federally mandated breaks, with launch scheduled for National Train Day, May 10. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Wichita Police use the new Raven gunshot detection system to pinpoint gunfire with 90% accuracy—cutting response times by three minutes in north, east and south Wichita—and will evaluate its performance before further expansion, according to Deputy Chief Duff. KSN
- ➤ A Kansas man from Benton was indicted by a Wichita federal grand jury for bank robbery at Community National Bank & Trust in El Dorado after he allegedly used force, violence, and intimidation in July, and the FBI is investigating the case. KSN
- ➤ Police arrested a 41-year-old suspect—booked Tuesday on suspicion of second-degree murder—after they investigated the fatal shooting of 49-year-old Ruben Parga-Quintanar, who was shot while fleeing on a bicycle near an alley in north Wichita on Friday. KSN
- ➤ The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said possible explosives were found during a narcotics investigation south of Haysville at 87th and S. Meridian — several law enforcement agencies, including the Wichita Police Department bomb squad, are working the scene with more details awaited. KWCH
