CRIME NEWS
- ➤ After 9:00 a.m. Friday, law enforcement responded to a body found in an alley west of 23rd Street North in northwest Wichita—blocking traffic as they launched the murder investigation. KNSS
- ➤ Wichita police arrested a 31-year-old man on Wednesday—he is charged with premeditated first-degree murder—in connection with the killing of 30-year-old Mariana Christian, whose body was found near Cottonwood Park earlier this week after a missing report was filed on July 21. KSN
- ➤ On Friday, Wichita Police activated the Raven Gunshot Detection System—acoustic sensors that quickly locate gunfire to help curb gun violence. The system was chosen using crime data and community input to provide officers with faster alerts. KWCH
- ➤ A Wichita mother raised her voice against gun violence after her 19-year-old daughter survived a May 3 shooting that left her with a traumatic brain injury—she is now preparing to return home after months in a Nebraska rehab facility while her family struggles with high medical costs due to limited insurance coverage. - ➤ Tanganyika Wildlife Park welcomed a new male pygmy hippo named Mars, the fifth calf of the pair Posie and Pluto. His birth supports the park’s effort to save the endangered species (fewer than 3,000 remain in the wild) and visitors can see him until November. KWCH

- ➤ Wichita Collegiate’s Lunden Esterline, an Andover native, won the boys division title at the 49th Junior PGA Championship with a four-round total of 19 under par, finishing six strokes ahead after an even-par 71 sealed his win—tying a course record with a 62.
