ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Wichita police are investigating a crash in south Wichita on Broadway & Clark where three people were hurt, with two critically injured and one seriously injured, around 10 p.m. on Sunday in an incident involving a vehicle and possibly a pedestrian or bicyclist.  KSN

CRIME NEWS

  • Kamil Lweno, who shot at vehicles on I-235 in 2024, was sentenced to 24 months probation Monday after three people reported cars were shot at—no one was injured.  KWCH

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Wichita’s Eisenhower Airport set a monthly record in June with 180,605 travelers — beating the previous record of 176,506 set in July last year. Additional airline capacity drove a 2.69% rise from June last year and a 7% increase over the last pre-pandemic June.  KWCH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wichita held in-person enrollment on Monday and holds it today from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.—all kindergarten families must enroll in person and complete a developmental questionnaire as students prepare for the first day of school on August 14.  KSN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Army Corps of Engineers reported that Cheney Reservoir’s conservation pool reached 1421.6 feet on Sunday afternoon and is now 100% full, a rise from being over eight feet below normal two months ago. Heavy rainfall boosted the lake level more than seven feet in less than 20 days, a mark last seen July 13th, 2022—three years ago.  KNSS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Monday, a stretch of McLean Boulevard near the ballpark will be closed for two weeks as crews work on river corridor improvements—drivers must use Maple Street to reach the Wind Surge ticket windows.  KSN
  • Mayor Lily Wu noted that Cheney Reservoir has reached normal levels and she is planning a meeting today at 9 a.m. at the Kansas Leadership Center to discuss ways the City of Wichita & Sedgwick County Commission and USD 259 can share water resources more effectively.  KNSS
  • Voters in District 1 will choose a new City Council member on August 5 as incumbent Brandon Johnson is term-limited. Four candidates—including Joseph Shepard, Aujanae Bennett, LeWanda DeShazer, and Chris Pumpelly—are running for the open seat.  KWCH
