COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Cure Violence ICT team in Planeview reported a 35% drop in violent incidents over one year, according to a Wichita Police report. The team holds daily check-ins and uses community outreach to mediate conflicts — they plan to expand efforts to keep the community safe.  The Voice

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A motorcyclist died after his motorcycle collided with a southbound car near 17th and Hydraulic just after 7:10 p.m. Friday—Wichita Police said the crash struck the rear passenger side of the vehicle.  KNSS

CRIME NEWS

  • On Saturday evening, one person was critically injured in a shooting on the 400 block of North Marlen Drive in Haysville — Sedgwick County dispatch said that authorities are investigating the incident.  KWCH
  • A Garden City man, 21-year-old Fernando Sandoval, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in a fatal party stabbing in 2024—he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated battery—after one victim died and two others were critically injured.  KWCH
  • A 25-year-old man was shot early Saturday morning after a fight in Wichita and is in critical condition with two gunshot wounds on the 400 block of North Mathew—police have not made any arrests.  KSN
  • A 51-year-old man was stabbed several times near Lincoln and Oliver just before 3 p.m. Friday during a verbal altercation, and police arrested a 61-year-old suspect — the victim remains in critical condition at a local hospital.  KNSS
  • A Wichita church lost its air conditioning after thieves stole four AC units last Wednesday night, forcing the congregation to hold services in other parts of the building as high temperatures made the sanctuary unbearable — Pastor Willard Dallas said the stolen equipment is valued at up to $40,000 and police are investigating the theft.  KWCH
