- ➤ Families in Wichita will pick up free school supplies and groceries this Saturday at seven sites served by Hope Wichita, a faith-based community outreach program. Cars line up at 7 a.m.—gates open at 9 a.m. and the event ends at 2 p.m. or when supplies run out. KSN
- ➤ Local community members met in Wichita last night to plan action for saving the NPR station facing budget cuts—organizers will raise funds and support through community events to help keep it on air. KWCH
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Kendall Forbes, a former Bishop Carroll star and Pittsburg State softball player, is in critical condition after her car was hit by a speeding vehicle in southeast Kansas — emergency crews found her in a ditch — and community members are rallying to support her recovery. FOX Kansas

- ➤ Evergy warned customers that scam attempts increased this summer—scammers used fake websites and cloned phone numbers—and advised reporting suspicious contacts through official channels or calling local law enforcement. KSN
- ➤ A Georgia man, 35-year-old Matt Jennings who hosted a hunting show, was sentenced to five years of probation and banned for life from hunting in Kansas after pleading guilty to illegally killing deer with a wrong tag and fake registration and must pay $15,000 in restitution and a $10,000 fine. - ➤ A teen died in a shooting outside the Wichita Police Department's Patrol North substation near 21st and Hillside on Thursday morning—officials said. KSN

- ➤ The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center held a Housing Surge Event on Thursday at the Learning Library in Wichita to help veterans secure stable rentals and connect with job placement services. The event is part of a county effort that has reduced the number of veterans needing housing from 44 to 24 — local partners worked with landlords to offer additional support. KSN
- ➤ Kerrie Lonard, head of the state foster care oversight agency, said unannounced inspections at congregate care facilities are needed after ongoing complaints showed children face risks from abuse and poor supervision.
