  • Kendall Forbes, a redshirt junior softball player at Pittsburg State and Carroll grad, was badly injured in a car crash Sunday night while returning to Pittsburg—she was ejected from her vehicle when struck on the driver’s side by a speeding car, and her condition has improved with doctors set to wean her off a ventilator Wednesday.  KWCH

  • On Tuesday, Sedgwick County Court charged 25-year-old Edward Millan-Volcan with first-degree murder after he fatally stabbed 27-year-old Sinay Leon-Montoya at a West Par Lane apartment on July 17—police said another 25-year-old woman was injured in the domestic dispute and his next court date is set for August 8.  KSN

  • Native Kansan photographer Gordon Parks' early works are on display at the Wichita Art Museum in the exhibit “Homeward to the Prairie I Come” until Sunday, July 27 — it features his documentary photos from Life magazine and portraits that highlight Black culture.  KMUW

  • Beef prices are reaching record highs this summer — impacting consumers and cattle ranchers as the Department of Agriculture attributes rising feed costs to drought-damaged pastures and high grain prices.  FOX Kansas

  • Ava Jones finished her final round of chemotherapy, her grandmother said, marking a milestone in her fight against Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma+ she was diagnosed in February and by April her cancer was 99% clear.  KSN
  • A new study from the Journal of Human Development and Capabilities finds that children who receive a smartphone before age 13 face higher risks for suicidal thoughts, aggression, and low self-worth—experts urge parents to watch their kids’ screen time closely. Eric Litwiller from the Mental Health Association said the study links early device use with poor sleep and weak family bonds.  KWCH
