CRIME NEWS

  • A person is in critical condition after an assault just before 9 p.m. on Monday night on the 800 block of S. Broadway Ave., where a 19-year-old woman was allegedly attacked by a 23-year-old man and detectives are searching for the suspect.  KSN
  • Julian Gonzalez pleaded guilty in Sedgwick County District Court to charges from a September 28 crash and stabbing at Murdock and West Street in west Wichita — where he hit a car carrying a man, a woman, and two children — and his sentencing is set for August 29.  KSN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Over 200 Kansas attractions will join the Sunflower Summer Program starting Saturday, offering free admission for families with school-aged children during a three-week run. The Kansas Aviation Museum will host a special aircraft exhibit on Sunday (an opportunity for kids and families to explore history).  KWCH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Sedgwick County Election Office is preparing for the 2025 Primary Election on Aug. 5 by sharing key dates with voters, including a July 15 registration deadline, advance ballots mailed beginning July 16, early in-person voting on July 21, and satellite sites opening July 31. The election features contests for Wichita City Council District 1, USD 259 Wichita Districts 1 and 5, and a local sales tax question — voters can register in person, by mail, or online.  KNSS
  • Governor Laura Kelly extended the deadline to apply for a magistrate judge in Sedgwick County — applications are now due July 18. Applicants must live in the county, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be a licensed Kansas attorney or pass a certification exam within 18 months; interested candidates should email [email protected] for materials.  KSN
  • Wichita city leaders voted Tuesday to start legal steps for a six-month trial in Delano that would allow open containers during strolls. City officials will secure insurance and post signs to mark the zone—stretching along Douglas from the river to Seneca—with final details expected next month.  KSN
