ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • One person was critically injured in a crash involving a pickup and a semi on eastbound K-42 near South 135th Street West between 8 and 8:30 p.m. on June 26th.  KWCH

CRIME NEWS

  • A Wichita woman, Tasha Dillard, is set for trial on Sept. 15 after facing a first-degree murder charge in the death of 7-year-old Davion Gunter—shot when a small child found and played with her gun.  KWCH
  • Carlos Anderson-Honeycutt received a 50-year sentence without parole in a Sedgwick County courtroom for the first-degree murder of his ex-girlfriend in southeast Wichita—he was arrested near the border two days after the fatal shooting in 2023.  KWCH

CULTURE NEWS

  • Midtopia — a nonprofit in Wichita that gives local artists low-cost services to record and release vinyl records while letting them keep their music rights — is working to change the music scene. The group aims to empower musicians with affordable resources that grow their careers.  KSN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Kansas wheat farmers have been making steady progress on the fifth day of harvest despite strong winds, scattered rains, and pressure from wheat streak mosaic virus (growers also express concerns over low market prices). In counties such as Hamilton, Jewell, and Rice, producers report solid yields and test weights and plan to adjust practices in the future.  KSN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • AAA projects heavy traffic on July 4 as nearly 692,151 Kansans will travel 50 miles or more from home; the group urges drivers to set phones to do not disturb and have vehicles inspected—focusing on safety for the holiday. This guidance comes amid increased road trips and busy airports where travelers should plan for longer security lines.  KNSS
  • Kansas leaders will meet on July 7 to talk about extending STAR bonds to help fund a new pro sports stadium and related facilities on the west side of the KC metro. A letter from the Chiefs asked for more time so plans for a dome stadium, team offices and a practice field can be completed, which may also boost efforts to attract the Royals.  KWCH

  • Experts from Animal Action League advised pet owners to help their pets get used to white noise and calming sounds the day before fireworks season began on Friday—ensuring animals also had up-to-date microchips to aid in their safe return if they wandered off due to anxiety.  KWCH
