CRIME NEWS

  • Wichita police arrested a 26-year-old male suspect on a second-degree murder charge after a fatal shooting occurred Saturday afternoon in the 4100 block of West Pine — 23-year-old Sauhni Stallings was taken by private vehicle to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.  KNSS
  • Ellis Police said they are looking for the person who deliberately damaged the Nicodemus sign at Memorial Park— police noted there is no evidence of hate motivation and ask anyone with information to call Ellis County Communications at 785-625-1011.  KWCH

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On June 23, residents dropped off tree debris for free at Brooks Landfill—landfill staff noted a high volume of community participation during the drop-off event.  KWCH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fireworks tents are appearing in Wichita as sales will start Friday, with sales limited to June 27 through July 5 from 10 a.m. to midnight. Aerial fireworks launches are allowed only from July 3 to July 5 with fines of up to $1,000 for violations—Sedgwick County will operate a non-emergency hotline nightly from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. until July 6.  KWCH

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kansas has 80 measles cases and three hospitalizations in 12 counties—most in Gray County—as reported by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The highly contagious virus spreads when an infected person coughs or sneezes and can be prevented with vaccines—two children and one adult have died this year.  KSN

SPORTS NEWS

  • The pro softball league AUSL ended its first season at Wilkins Stadium with nearly sold-out crowds that boosted local spending on hotels and restaurants. Organizers said high demand and strong visitor turnout mean the league will return next season.  KWCH
  • Myles Creighton won the Wichita Open on Championship Sunday at Crestview Country Club—his first Korn Ferry Tour victory as he sank a five-foot putt for par to break a tie with Quade Cummins amid high heat and strong winds.  FOX Kansas
