CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Christopher Johnson pleaded not guilty for a felony hit-and-run that killed 43-year-old Tad Doyle last summer in northwest Wichita—his trial is set for Oct. 6. KWCH
- ➤ Last month, Kansas Highway Patrol Troop V recovered a stolen 2022 GMC Sierra in Lyon County and found the truck had been cloned with a fraudulent VIN that matched one from a vehicle stolen in Dallas last year, so the agency urged buyers to verify key features like the VIN, key fobs, and door locks before purchase. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The City of Wichita has opened a request for proposals inviting visual artists to submit permanent outdoor sculptures for 14 pedestals in Old Town, Downtown, and Delano with budgets between $8,000 and $14,000 per piece. Proposals are due at 12:59 a.m. CDT July 22 and questions must be emailed by 5 p.m. CDT June 30—selected works will join the city’s public art collection funded through the percent for art ordinance. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Laura Kelly announced more than $4.5 million in funding for 20 transportation projects using artificial intelligence to improve roads, traffic signals, and aviation systems—projects include one in Wichita and others in Halstead, Maize, Park City, Gardner and Edgerton. The KDOT Innovative Technology Program will boost safety and efficiency as it supports these selected initiatives. KSN
- ➤ Sedgwick County officials are asking residents, business owners and farmers affected by recent flooding to use the new Public Damage Reporting Survey to report damages in Sedgwick and Butler Counties. Reported details may help affected areas qualify for low-interest SBA loans—residents with extensive damage are advised to contact the American Red Cross for further disaster relief. KNSS
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A new analysis from Manatt Health shows that if approved by the Senate, a pending federal budget bill will cut Kansas Medicaid funding by $3.77 billion over 10 years and lower enrollment by 13,000 people. The bill will also reduce food assistance by cutting $300 billion from SNAP — a change that could further strain rural hospitals already struggling with financial challenges. KNSS
