- ➤ Wichita Riverfest reported early numbers that show a larger crowd attended than in past years—organizers say the festival attracted more visitors and highlights growing local interest. KSN
- ➤ Recovery efforts continue in Plevna after an EF-3 tornado destroyed at least nine homes last month. The local VOAD cleared 522 tons of debris — the United Way of Reno County seeks to raise $250,000 while affected families will join a contractor bid tour on July 2, with registrations closing on June 25. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office is asking for help to identify a man — seen riding an electric bicycle — who burglarized Mulvane Animal Clinic near 103rd Street South and Rock Road between 10:30 p.m. and midnight on Sunday night. KWCH
- ➤ A Wichita man said he was sexually abused in the 1990s by Bodie Weiss, a former youth leader at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, after an investigation confirmed abuse of 23 youth, and the church will hold a Service of Repentance — Healing on June 22 at 4 p.m. KWCH
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Crews hauled trucks into downtown Wichita Monday to set up for the second annual Somewhere Fest—a summer musical event featuring hip hop and EDM with tickets at $85 for one day or $140 for both days. Organizers said last year's Elsewhere Fest drew about 12,000 people and they expect this year to be bigger. FOX Kansas

- ➤ On Tuesday, June 3, Kansas Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt and her staff visited the El Dorado Community Building in Butler County to help flood victims with insurance claim questions and complaints—local agencies provided cleanup, recovery, and mental health support. The visit came a week after heavy rains caused widespread flooding in southeast Kansas. KSN
- ➤ Sedgwick County officials urge Wichita residents, business owners and farmers affected by the June 3 floods to complete the Public Damage Reporting Survey so officials can track damage and plan recovery efforts. Survey results may help affected parties access low-interest SBA loans and advise those with severe damage to contact the American Red Cross for disaster relief. KWCH

- ➤ A new report by Trust for America’s Health found that Kansas and Missouri outpaced national trends in reducing combined death rates from drugs, alcohol and suicide in 2023—Kansas saw a 14% drop in overdose deaths while Missouri recorded a 10% decline in injury fatalities.
