ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Authorities reported that a Clearwater woman died when her Chevrolet Blazer rolled over after colliding with a Dodge Challenger at K-42 and Tyler just before 7 p.m. Saturday as one driver was hospitalized with serious injuries and another sustained minor injuries—investigators believe the Challenger failed to yield the right of way. - ➤ The City of Wichita is seeking artists to create permanent outdoor sculptures for 14 pedestals—located in downtown, Old Town, and Delano—and budgets range from $8,000 to $14,000 per work; proposals are due by 12:59 a.m. CDT Tuesday, July 22. KSN
- ➤ TaLyiah Lewis, a 16-year-old junior from Northwest High School, was crowned Miss Juneteenth ICT 2025 on June 8 at the Duerksen Fine Arts Center on the WSU campus, earning a $1500 cash prize after competing against five other contestants. She will lead Wichita’s Juneteenth celebrations this year—focusing on teen mental health and later competing in Miss Kansas Teen. The Voice

- ➤ Cheney Reservoir's water level increased about 40% since May 24—adding nearly 8 billion gallons—but it remains almost four feet below normal as summer nears. Wichita continues to enforce Stage 2 drought restrictions that limit lawn and garden watering to once a week. KWCH
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kansas first responders from south central Kansas met in Andover to practice life-saving rescue techniques using modern equipment like the Jaws of Life — vital for responding on both busy highways and gravel back roads. Hosted by the National Auto Body Council, the training improved teamwork and introduced new skills for some firefighters. FOX Kansas
- ➤ Sedgwick County has proposed an expansion of its Forensic Science Center near 10th and Minneapolis in northeast Wichita to add dedicated space for DNA analysis, firearms testing and drug identification. The county said the over $20 million project will boost lab capacity and modernize workflows — helping prevent case backlogs as the commission votes on the plan during budget adoption day in August. - ➤ Sedgwick County Public Works will begin work today and tomorrow at the intersection of 21st Street North and 167th Street West to install a central traffic signal flashing red in all directions and add rumble strips along 21st Street—steps that will improve driver safety. KSN
- ➤ A resource center will open in El Dorado to support residents affected by last week’s flash flood—local and state agencies, nonprofits, and disaster relief groups will offer help with cleanup and recovery.
