ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 4-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital in stable condition after nearly drowning in east Wichita when he fell into a pool near Central Avenue and Rock Road just before 6:30 p.m.—authorities said the fall appeared accidental and witnesses confirmed the incident.  KSN

CRIME NEWS

  • Wichita police said a child and an adult were shot at a home near 26th and Park Place around 10:45 p.m.—both victims received critical but non-life-threatening injuries and officers are investigating the targeted shooting amid a crowd complicating their work.  KSN

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Mayor Lily Wu said the annual River Festival brings many visitors downtown and boosts restaurant business, showing a strong impact on the local economy. She added that a town hall meeting with Sedgwick County Commission Chair Ryan Baty + Wichita Board of Education President Diane Albert is set for Wednesday at 5 p.m. at City Hall while the City Council meets Tuesday at 6 p.m. to review the property tenants code.  KNSS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wichita Public Schools has launched a Community Engagement Survey to gather feedback from families, staff—and the community to guide decisions on school funding, facilities, and communication. The survey remains open through June with results set to be shared in the fall.  KNSS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Interstate 135 in north Wichita will be closed for most of the weekend to allow pavement repairs. KDOT said southbound lanes close Friday at 7 p.m. and northbound lanes close Saturday at 5 a.m. until Monday at 6 a.m.—drivers should plan alternate routes.  KSN
  • More than 160 candidates filed by noon Monday to run for Wichita City Council and Wichita USD 259 School Board positions in Sedgwick County. Some races will appear on the Aug. 5 primary ballot – all will be on the Nov. 4 ballot.  KSN
  • Wichita Mayor Lily Wu said the annual Riverfest boosts local businesses by attracting visitors to the city core. The City Council meets at 6 p.m. today to review the property tenants code and the Mayor with other officials will hold a town hall meeting Wednesday at City Hall to examine possible duplication of services — a step that could impact local government policies.  KNSS
