  • Riverfest Day 3 in downtown Wichita featured a Family Fun Day where children 12 and under got free entry for wagon tours, carnival rides and hands-on activities. Students from Wichita Public Schools competed in challenges like trike races and tug-of-war hosted by Ascension Via Christi to earn prizes + school bragging rights.  KWCH
  • Wichita held its annual Riverfest Sundown Parade on May 30 when officers led the festival's opening, marking the start of a community celebration.  The Sunflower

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 10:30 p.m. Friday, a slowing car on the northbound I-35 near mile marker 9.4 in Sumner County was hit from behind, seriously injuring Wellington man Timothy Nash who was taken to hospital while Joshua Clark of Manhattan was not injured—investigators are looking into the crash.  KNSS
  • A motorcycle accident on Sunday evening on the 1000 block of N. Coolidge in the Riverside community left one person critically hurt — Sedgwick County dispatch said the call came shortly after 6 p.m.  KWCH

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Parlor Doughnuts will open in Wichita in July, taking over the old Hurts Donut location at 7010 W. 21st St.—the chain started in Evansville and now runs over 100 stores in 19 states.  Wichita By E.B.

CRIME NEWS

  • Wichita Police arrested a 35-year-old man on Sunday morning after a disturbance at a motel on S. Broadway led to a shooting that wounded a 37-year-old man — he was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.  KWCH
  • Officers responded to multiple gunshots near 13th and Hillside in northeast Wichita at about 12:45 a.m. Saturday — a disturbance with further gunfire striking two homes — and later an 18-year-old man was taken to a hospital with minor injuries from flying glass.  KNSS
  • Wichita police investigated a Saturday morning shooting in east Wichita that injured an 18-year-old male when flying glass struck his vehicle during a disturbance in the 4000 block of East Vesta.  KWCH
  • Two people were critically hurt after a shooting on N. Park Place in northwest Wichita shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday night — Sedgwick County Dispatch confirmed the incident and police are investigating the scene.  KWCH

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Sedgwick County Fire lieutenant is leading a new support group for firefighters to care for their mental health—aiming to break stigma and foster open discussion.  KSN
