- ➤ Tomorrow marks the 70th anniversary of the Udall tornado, the deadliest tornado in Kansas history. On May 25th, 1955, the tornado killed 80 people, injured 270, and destroyed 192 buildings in Udall, a town 24 miles south-southeast of Wichita. KNSS
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Emergency crews responded to a fatal crash on Kansas Highway 42 near 279th Street West on Friday at about 1 p.m.—the collision between a semi and another vehicle resulted in one death and a potentially serious injury while the highway remains closed in both directions. KSN
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Anthony Alvarez, a University of Kansas student, filed a lawsuit in federal court on Thursday claiming he was fired without cause and placed on probation after speaking to a news outlet about proposed housing changes, which he argues violated his free speech and due process rights. The suit—represented by former U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom—names KU Housing officials as defendants. KWCH
- ➤ Union representatives for Wichita teachers, service employees and security officers reached contract agreements with the Wichita Board of Education that give a 3% raise for the 2025-26 school year. The contracts — which include improved salary schedules and career steps while keeping health premiums unchanged — will be ratified at the board meeting on June 9. KWCH
