- ➤ Raising Cane’s will open its first Wichita location on Tuesday, June 24th at 350 S. Ridge Road — the restaurant is set to hire 125 workers. Applicants can visit the hiring center at the SpringHill Suites Wichita Airport hotel from May 26th through June 15th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. KSN
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A preliminary hearing for the former Marion police chief facing an obstruction of justice charge over the August 2023 raid on the Marion County Record newspaper has been postponed from today until July 23 after a defense request. KWCH
- ➤ A Wichita man, Jose Acosta (33), pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and five additional counts for his deadly November 2024 shooting spree, with sentencing set for Aug. 1 (by Judge Tyler Roush). KSN
- ➤ A Wichita family held a balloon release on missing man Kyle Neugebauer’s 27th birthday at the corner of 254 North and 143rd Street, where he was last seen running in 20-degree weather on Dec. 17th, 2024 — multiple search operations so far have not found him and his family is urging renewed searches. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sedgwick County Commission is preparing next year's budget after reviewing spending proposals from all 46 county departments. Commission chair Ryan Baty said the county faces pressure to keep services high while controlling taxes—county government accounts for 20% of local property tax and holds the lowest mill levy in 27 years. - ➤ Wichita’s Hunter Health Clinic said some patient information was potentially compromised in a data breach that occurred between Sept. 27 and Sept. 30, 2024. The clinic contained the breach, worked with cybersecurity experts, notified affected patients on May 15, and offered free credit monitoring for those whose Social Security numbers were involved—actions taken to protect privacy. - ➤ Health officials are investigating a salmonella outbreak tied to tainted cucumbers from Florida-based Bedner Growers that have sickened 26 people in 15 states including Kansas, with nine hospitalizations and no deaths. Retailers received the produce sold to restaurants and food service distributors between April 29 and May 19—consumers are urged to throw away any cucumbers they may have purchased. KSN
