- ➤ Wichita police are investigating a shooting near downtown where four people were injured — the incident took place early Saturday morning. KAKE
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Arland Wallace returned to Wichita State after retiring as a deacon and found a new love for archaeology despite his terminal brain cancer and a stroke. He earned Adult Learner of the Year and will walk the stage at commencement in May while taking summer courses to finish his degree and pursue a master’s in anthropology (he hopes to teach a freshman archaeology class). ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A chemical plume of trichloroethylene from the Textron plant near Central and Webb contaminated groundwater since the 1990s and spread into nearby Forest Hills, threatening residents' health and property. Neighbors have filed a class action suit in Sedgwick County District Court alleging that Textron delayed proper cleanup—forcing costly measures to mitigate vapor intrusion into homes. The Voice
- ➤ Neighbors living near Central and Webb sued Textron in Sedgwick County District Court after finding that 200 to 300 homes are built above a plume of TCE traced to an east Wichita airplane plant.
