COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cure Violence ICT is hosting its 2nd annual 'Buckets Over Bullets' event to raise funds for a Wichita teen in the hospital + the fundraiser aims to support the teen’s ongoing care.  KWCH

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At least one person was seriously hurt in north Wichita Saturday evening when a vehicle left the roadway and overturned on 29th Street North near the ramp to southbound I-135 at 8:10 p.m.—the Kansas Highway Patrol said the car was moving east on the ramp from K-96 when a 36-year-old passenger, not wearing a seat belt, suffered suspected serious injuries while two women were uninjured.  KNSS

CRIME NEWS

  • KDOC is searching for inmate Royce Lee Timmons—42, a convicted offender in Sedgwick County—who did not return to a Wichita minimum-security work release facility Saturday night.  KWCH
  • Police said one person was critically hurt after a shooting at the intersection of 13th St. and Minnesota Ave. in north Wichita on Sunday, May 4th—shortly after 1:00 p.m.  KWCH
  • A Sedgwick County patrol car crashed on Sunday night near a McDonald’s at 47th and Broadway when a suspect rammed it during a stolen vehicle call and later abandoned a stolen truck near OJ Watson Park while deputies chased him, and an unrelated collision injured five people— all with minor injuries.  KWCH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Adriana and Victoria Owens are twins at Wichita State who share many classes and clubs but are now setting their own paths as Adriana finishes her bachelor’s degree this month and plans to start a master’s in criminal justice this fall while Victoria will complete another year as a student senator (she studies sociology and political science).  The Sunflower

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Saturday, advocates from the Association of People Against Lethal Drugs held an event in Wichita to honor families affected by fentanyl overdoses—Wichita Police used Narcan as they shared drug prevention resources with the community. The event also highlighted DEA data that overdoses are the leading cause of death for Americans ages 18—44.  KWCH

  • Kelly Regier completed the Prairie Fire 5K in Wichita on May 4 dressed as Chewbacca and carried a flag to honor the Star Wars holiday (sparking cheers from the crowd).  KWCH
