  • On May 3, 1999, a devastating F4 tornado hit Haysville, Kansas, killing six people, injuring 145, and destroying 150 homes and 27 businesses — residents still remember the storm and its role in spurring award-winning rebuilding efforts.  KWCH
  • Diamond Springs Ranch hosted a Kentucky Derby-themed party on Saturday that brought a slice of Louisville’s race-day excitement to Kansas with food trucks, mixed drinks and casual bets. Owners Logan and Byron Schrag organized the event—letting local guests enjoy a taste of the Derby as they watched the race where Sovereignty won and the jockey took home $3.1 million.  KSN
  • On May 1, the Urban League Dinner at Holiday Inn East in Wichita honored seven individuals including Rev. C. Richard Kirkendoll as Volunteer of the Year and posthumously recognized civil rights attorney Kiah Duggins with the Emerging Leader Award. CRIME NEWS

  • A shooting early Saturday left four people injured when officers responded just after 2 a.m. after hearing gunfire near an apartment complex on W. Central; the victims include three teen girls—one in critical condition—and a 19-year-old suspect as police investigate a disturbance among known individuals.  KSN
