- ➤ A child was left extremely critical after drowning at an east Wichita hotel on the 7300 block of E. Kellogg on May 1 when emergency crews arrived at 9:30 p.m. and found the child not breathing — they transported the child to a local hospital for urgent treatment. KWCH

- ➤ Today, the popular Wichita bar & grill The Anchor on East Douglas is temporarily closed after the State Department of Revenue seized the property—customers are informed by a sign on the door and phone calls now end immediately. FOX Kansas
- ➤ Carhartt opened its first Kansas store at Bradley Fair in Wichita at 1900 N Rock Rd, Suite 110 in early April. The new location, Carhartt’s 55th standalone store nationwide, offers workwear such as jackets, rugged boots and bib overalls—designed for tough work conditions. KWCH
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Six Wichita residents face disorderly conduct charges after a fight erupted in a Sedgwick County courtroom during a murder sentencing on April 8—family members clashed after a relative called for a maximum sentence. KWCH
- ➤ Wichita police are searching for 81-year-old Rance Reed, who was last seen riding a bike near 1900 N. Kansas on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m.—he suffers from dementia; anyone with information should call 911 immediately. KWCH
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Cowtown Horsepower Showdown, a fundraiser featuring classic and modern vehicles, will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Old Cowtown Museum (1865 W. Museum Blvd.) in Wichita, with $20 early registration and $25 at the gate to support museum programming, volunteer initiatives, and preservation projects. KSN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A national memorial event will honor 70 fallen firefighters including Wichita Fire Department member Ty Voth, a 27 year old who died last summer while fighting a house fire near Haysville. The candlelight service will begin tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. Kansas time and the memorial service is scheduled for Sunday at 9 a.m.—with state flags set to be flown at half-staff in his honor. KWCH

- ➤ Rick Jeffrey, a longtime Wichita chef who inspired menus at local eateries, got his life-saving liver transplant after a three-year battle with liver disease — he said the surgery gives him a second shot at life and hopes to inspire others to sign up as organ donors. KSN
