ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Tuesday night before 9 p.m., a wrong-way driver in a 2004 Pontiac collided head-on with a 2015 Mercedes near 17th Street on I-135 in north Wichita, injuring two people—one critically. KWCH
- ➤ A New York Times report revealed that the Army helicopter’s tracking technology was turned off during a secret training mission before flight 5342 crashed in January. The NTSB said the lack of one-second updates hindered timely air traffic response—prompting the FAA to change rules around Reagan Airport for national security missions. KWCH
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Wichita police are investigating an incident where a 14-year-old was reportedly abducted and sexually assaulted at 10:00 p.m. Monday near 19th and Grove+ she sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital while detectives continue following up with witness leads and video evidence. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Wichita City Council and Sedgwick County Commission are meeting today to discuss a drug company settlement of up to $10 million to fight opioid addiction—while they review ways to enhance parks and quality-of-life facilities and address concerns about higher tariffs affecting local businesses. - ➤ After a water main break on Tuesday, city crews halted water service on Kenawee Street from Auburn to Janesville in Bel Aire. Officials said water will be restored within the next three to four hours. KSN
- ➤ Sedgwick County and Wichita held a meeting Tuesday to decide how to allocate over $5 million from opioid settlements and agreed to form an advisory board that will recommend spending strategies by year-end; some commissioners expressed concern that the process could delay funds needed for immediate addiction treatment — while others emphasized the importance of a clear plan before the money is spent. - ➤ On April 29th, KDOT closed the westbound K-96 ramp to Hydraulic Avenue to install a temporary concrete safety barrier—work that is part of phase 2B of the ongoing North Junction Gold Project. - ➤ This Saturday, Wichita residents can get a free skin cancer screening at KU School of Medicine-Wichita located at 1010 N. Kansas off I-135 near the 8th and 9th exits using the east entrance.
