ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A motorcycle driver was taken to the hospital after crashing into a bus at the intersection of Douglas and Water near Century II in downtown Wichita Friday just after 11 p.m. — he was riding the wrong way on a one-way street.  KWCH
  • An 18-year-old motorcyclist, Bailey Ihde, who was going the wrong way on Water Street, collided with a bus at the intersection of Douglas and Water near Century II in downtown Wichita a little after 11 p.m. Friday—he was taken to a hospital with suspected serious injuries while the bus driver was not injured.  KNSS

CRIME NEWS

  • Police say a man was killed in a shooting at a south Wichita motel—police took a suspect into custody.  KSN
  • A 21-year-old man was critically injured after being shot outside the Afton Motel on the 800 block of South Broadway just before 8:30 p.m. on Friday during a disturbance, and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.  KNSS
  • The Kansas Humane Society warned Wichita residents that scammers are using spoofed phone numbers and social media groups to ask for money to pay for surgeries for lost pets, and the society said it will never require prepayment.  KWCH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wichita State inaugurated its new student government on Thursday when Jia Wen Wang became student body president and Amy Nguyen was sworn in as vice president along with new senators, justices and returning Chief Justice Lesly Hernandez — Wang promised to lead with vision, collaboration and accountability for the 17,000 students on campus.  The Sunflower

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City District said seasonal staffing limits will reduce services at 18 district lakes starting May 15. At Wilson Lake, overnight camping at Minooka Park will close while day use stays open—information centers at Kanopolis and Hillsdale Lakes will also be shuttered until conditions improve.  KWCH
