  • Tony Reyneros, an experienced forager, spent a recent Saturday morning with his daughter Scarlet in Sedgwick County searching among dead trees and leaves for wild morel mushrooms + prized as a gourmet delicacy that cannot be farmed.  KMUW

  • Wichita students have organized a colorful fundraiser to support local schools + boost school pride. Reported on Apr. 24, the event will soon gather community members as it celebrates creativity.  KWCH

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A severe hail storm hit Marion Thursday night & one local resident said her camper and car suffered cracks and holes from hail the size of tennis balls, though no major structural damage occurred.  KWCH
  • Yesterday, the National Weather Service surveyed tornado damage at Lake Kahola (95 miles northeast of Wichita) in southern Morris County. Local officials reported that several cabins and other buildings were damaged, but no injuries occurred.  KWCH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Veterans and surviving spouses received help filing claims with support from primary care professionals at a Kansas Office of Veterans Services event held in Wichita on Friday. Organizers said the event connected attendees with 36 service providers for extra benefits.  KWCH

  • KSHSAA approved sanctioning girls flag football on Apr. 24, a move that will allow teams to compete in state-sanctioned events & boost athletic opportunities for female student-athletes.  KWCH
