COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, T-Mobile donated a $15,000 check to ICT SOS to support its Education Empowerment Room in Wichita & employees helped paint the room and sort donations. The funds will expand the nonprofit's middle and high school curriculum & set the stage for future community projects.  KWCH

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Stroud's Restaurant and Bar in Wichita announced it will close on May 15, ending decades of service as a local favorite since 1933. The restaurant, known for its pan-fried chicken and home cooking, invites customers to share one final meal—reservations are recommended.  KSN

CRIME NEWS

  • Wichita police said the missing 13-year-old was found safe after they asked the community for help on Wednesday afternoon — the department noted that local tips led to the teen's recovery.  KAKE
  • Wichita Police Department said that missing 9-year-old Major was found safe — officials confirm his well-being.  KAKE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kansas lost $22.6 million in federal COVID relief funds used for reading programs that help students catch up after the pandemic. Teachers enrolled in the LETRS program can finish their lessons—new spots will not be funded until the state learns if the money is returned.  The Beacon

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Julie Stimson, director of Sedgwick County Emergency Management, received the 2025 Excellence in Public Service Award on Tuesday from the DeVore Foundation—she earned a $3,000 prize recognizing her leadership and teamwork in emergency response across 20 cities. She leads a team of five and will attend a formal awards reception at Botanica Wichita on May 14 while additional honorees are announced today.  KSN

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • New owners at Western Acres Mobile Home Park in Hutchinson ordered residents to leave by the end of April as they plan to shut down the park—many say the short notice is unfair after investing in upgrades. Rambling Roads offered a $5,000 moving assistance, but some residents on disability worry they cannot manage the move on time.  KWCH
