ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Four people were hospitalized Monday after a northbound SUV crossed the center median and struck a KHP motorist assist vehicle on southbound I-235 near MacArthur just before 8:30 p.m.—one person is in critical condition while two others have serious injuries and the technician sustained minor injuries. - ➤ Friends and family gathered Tuesday night at Wichita Northwest for a balloon release to honor 21-year-old Todric McGee—a Wichita native and Missouri State University football player who was injured Friday with an accidental gunshot wound and died Saturday morning. KWCH
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Wichita police detained a suspect who is being interviewed about the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Eric Lopez-Morales, who was shot in the 1600 block of South Broadway on April 17 — the suspect has not been named. KSN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Sedgwick County Commission will review a report on the Kansas Legislative session and will approve a proclamation for Drug Endangered Children Day at today's meeting. Commission Chair Ryan Baty said the county swung for the fences — but in the end, it focused on elections — as lawmakers limited special elections to one per year. KNSS
- ➤ KDOT closed two lanes of eastbound Kellogg on Tuesday morning for sign work — crews began marking lanes on I-235 near Wichita’s north junction with the project scheduled to finish by early July. KWCH
- ➤ Tuesday was the last day to register to vote in Goddard’s school bond election. Voters were asked to approve a $196 million bond that will fund two new elementary schools and upgrades for security, roofs, HVAC, asphalt paving and lighting ahead of Election Day on May 13. KSN
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Wichita was named the top city for Veterans’ health care by Trajector Medical’s 2025 rankings after the Robert J. Dole VA earned a perfect score by showing low wait times and high patient satisfaction—reviewing more than 1,800 data points from 132 VA hospitals nationwide. KWCH
- ➤ Today at 2 p.m., Governor Laura Kelly will join the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and local officials in Garden City to provide an update on the measles outbreak—37 cases have been reported across eight counties—while noting that no hospitalizations have been recorded so far. KSN
- ➤ Governor Laura Kelly and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment held a briefing in Garden City Tuesday on a measles outbreak that has caused 37 cases in southwest Kansas, mostly in unvaccinated people under 18—with one hospitalization reported and early MMR shots recommended for infants 6 to 11 months old.
