- ➤ Wichita State’s pickleball courts are opening in a new location between the Heskett Center and Hubbard Hall today with a grand opening at 11 a.m. and food and drinks available at noon. - ➤ Two unauthorized visitors were escorted from Sedgwick High School after trying for almost an hour to enter from the grade school—authorities later identified and contacted them at their Park City home and warned that they will be arrested if they return. KWCH
- ➤ Wichita police said (Wednesday morning) that missing teen Nichalus Hohner was found safe. KAKE
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Wichita State athletic director Kevin Saal gave an update on Cessna Stadium renovations yesterday. Crews demolished the east-side stands and will rebuild the west-side stands by 2026 to prepare the stadium for a possible women’s soccer program. KWCH
- ➤ Haysville's $80 million school bond passed with about 75% of nearly 2,000 voters to fund improvements such as roof repairs, HVAC systems, parking lots, and interior finishes. In Mulvane, two bond proposals—a $50 million infrastructure bond and a $9 million early childhood education center—were mostly voted down while mail-in ballots remain pending. KNSS

- ➤ Local and state leaders broke ground on Wednesday at noon at 3901 S. Custer Ave. for a new mental health hospital that will have 104 beds for adults with acute mental illness (Sedgwick County is building it with $25 million in federal recovery funds and $71.5 million in state funds and the state will operate the facility) and it is expected to open by 2027. - ➤ Today, Wichita is in stage two drought so city water restrictions remain in place and residents can water outdoors only on their assigned day; city officials stressed the need for water conservation while some homeowners delay garden projects as Cheney Lake stays nearly eight feet below normal — a sign the drought is still severe.
