  • The Wiens family, grieving the loss of Daniel (who passed in Nov. 2025), received a 12-month paid mortgage from Iron Horse Financial and Gradient Gives Back Foundation to help preserve the home where they run a daycare in Wichita.  KWCH
  • Station 8 BBQ won Wichita's Most Liked Restaurant title after outlasting 127 other restaurants in a 24-hour Facebook final. The BBQ spot (1100 E 3rd St. N.) earned its win by roughly a 200-vote margin.  Wichita By E.B.
  • Dillons is hosting Senior Discount Day today, offering a 10% discount on most groceries and household essentials for shoppers aged 55 and older. Customers must mention the discount at checkout, and exclusions apply (alcohol, tobacco, gift cards, fuel).  KWCH

  • Ruth’s Chris Steak House will open at the old Fox + Hound and Old Spaghetti Factory site at 1421 N. Waterfront. A $5 million remodeling plan was filed to update the restaurant space and its outdoor landscaping.  Wichita By E.B.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The American Legion Boys State of Kansas will be held at Kansas State University from May 31-June 6 for high school sophomores and juniors to learn government through simulations + build leadership skills. Applications close April 30.  KWCH
  • Wichita Public School leaders asked residents Monday night for input via an online tool to shape bond proposals for fixing aging buildings + improving classrooms after last year's rejected $450M measure.  FOX Kansas
  • USD 259 introduced three bond proposals on Tuesday to fund school improvements. The proposals will be reviewed at upcoming district meetings and could boost funding for updating district facilities.  KWCH

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Farmers in the Flint Hills are beginning controlled burns this April — a normal land management practice to improve pasture conditions, and state officials say the burns will be carefully monitored for safety.  KWCH

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents along Haysville Street report raw sewage pooling has caused a strong odor and may have triggered a severe bacterial infection in a rescue dog named Harper, who spent five days in ICU and lost weight. The dog's owner has contacted state agencies about the pollution.  FOX Kansas

  • A recent report ranked Wichita as one of the best cities for buying a home; the study released Tuesday, Apr. 7 noted the city's affordable housing as a key factor for potential buyers.  KWCH
