CULTURE NEWS

  • Smalls Sliders is hosting Aviation Appreciation Week starting today at its downtown location. The event will offer aviation-themed slider specials and fun activities for local fans during the week.  KWCH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wichita school board presented three school bond proposals Monday that include renovations, new facilities, and changes ranging from no extra tax to an added $60 per $200,000 home. Residents can share feedback at community sessions (or online) before a final decision in June.  KWCH
  • Students and staff at Wichita State rang the New York Stock Exchange closing bell (a historic honor) Monday, Apr. 6 to highlight the university's global connections. The ceremony marked a memorable day on campus.  KWCH
  • Four candidates for vice president of Student Affairs have held forums in recent weeks to share their visions for Wichita State after Teri Hall retired at the end of fall 2025. A search firm has been hired to help select the next leader.  The Sunflower
  • Andover Central High School's robotics team won a regional competition in Kansas City on Apr. 6 and earned praise for their innovative design and teamwork.  KWCH
  • Textron Aviation named its 2026 Top Hawk recipients, loaning them new Cessna Skyhawks to support pilot training at aviation schools+ boosting future pilots' skills for real-world flight experience.  KNSS
  • Students at Wichita State are voting for next year’s student government leaders and constitutional amendments from April 6 at 8 a.m. until April 8 at 5 p.m. Voting is available online and at campus locations like Shocker Dining Hall.  The Sunflower
  • Enrollment for summer and fall classes opened on Monday, Apr. 6 at Wichita State for seniors, graduate students, athletes and Honors Colleges students, while juniors are enrolling today and sophomores, freshmen and non-degree seeking students will register on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  The Sunflower

  • Rose Hill Road closed Monday for a construction project installing two concrete box culverts and resurfacing south of SW 16th Street — detours are set for emergency access while temporary mailboxes are arranged for nearby residents.  KWCH
  • NASA administrator Jared Isaacman and Sen. Jerry Moran visited Monday at the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson — marking the Artemis II mission with a ribbon cutting for the renovated Hall of Space museum. They noted historic artifacts that show how space travel inspires future exploration.  KWCH
