COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Books & Breakfast, a community program that builds literacy through hot meals and interactive storytime, will host families Saturday, April 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Build & Rebuild. Every child gets a book to take home to boost reading skills.  The Voice
  • RiverFlix returns at the Wichita Foundation Amphitheater on Friday, April 24 with 27 weeks of free outdoor movie nights for families, except on September 25. Movies start at sunset and food trucks will offer snacks for those arriving at 6 p.m.  Wichita By E.B.

CULTURE NEWS

  • Great Plains Transportation Museum said on Apr. 5 that it will restore a vintage railcar at its Wichita facility. The restoration project will start soon—showing the city’s rich rail history.  KWCH
  • Great Plains Transportation Museum is seeking donations to restore an old baggage car into an event space for birthday parties, tours, and corporate events. The $70,000 restoration aims to boost museum revenue and preserve Wichita’s rail history — with a Kansas Railroad Hall of Fame pending governor approval.  KWCH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • USD 259 school officials will soon consider potential bonds to improve facilities at local schools, aiming to boost classroom resources and safety. The board will schedule meetings to offer details and gather community input.  KWCH
  • Wichita Public Schools is considering a bond proposal for November to fund repairs on aging buildings after a $450 million bond failed, with details to be shared at today's 6 p.m. Board meeting (community sessions are planned in April and a formal recommendation will be given on June 1).  KWCH

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sedgwick County Environmental Resources Department is hosting e-waste collection events to help residents safely dispose of old electronics. The events run from April 23 through April 25 and from April 30 through May 2, 9 a.m. + 2 p.m., at the West Yard recycling facility at 4701 S. West Street.  KNSS
