- ➤ Five hundred Wichitans gathered at Kansas Sneaker Fest—an event where locals celebrated sneaker culture and supported community businesses. KSN
- ➤ The Sunflower Summer program returns on July 1 — backed by $3.5 million in funding to offer families with school-aged children free access to over 200 attractions across Kansas. Wichita By E.B.

- ➤ Just before 6 p.m. Friday, a 74-year-old man ran a stop sign on 29th Street North & 167th Street West when he hit a minivan carrying a 46-year-old man & two children, injuring all four and causing a gas leak that fire crews quickly capped. KNSS
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ WSU Tech’s aviation students are preparing for a national competition in Atlanta from April 8–10—over 90 teams from airlines, military and technical schools will contest while faculty say the event offers a vital chance to network and demonstrate aircraft maintenance skills amid a growing technician shortage. - ➤ Wichita State’s Student Senate passed a nonbinding resolution on March 26—requesting that campus parking rules be relaxed by extending the two-hour limit at the Steve Clark YMCA to three hours, allowing free use of the parking garage after 5 p.m., and using the term “accessible” instead of “handicapped.” Chairperson Adriana Owens said the changes address student concerns and the act now awaits a review by Student Body President Kylee Hower. - ➤ The Callery Pear tree was brought from Asia for its pretty white spring flowers but now grows too fast and pushes out local plants, which makes it a problem during strong winds. The Kansas Forest Service will start a buyback program in 2026 and local nurseries are encouraging people to plant trees better suited for Wichita’s climate—steps aimed at protecting native ecosystems. - ➤ The Sedgwick County Department of Aging and Disabilities in partnership with Project SEARCH will host a virtual reverse job fair from April 1 to May 2 to help employers meet candidates who have intellectual and developmental disabilities—businesses can connect with Project SEARCH interns seeking entry-level work. - ➤ Wichita named Reggie Davidson as its new director of Parks and Recreation. He served as interim director since September 2024 (overseeing daily operations and community events) and will now lead a department that manages public parks and facilities. The Voice

- ➤ The FDA started a Class II recall on March 13 for 692 cases of Coffee Roasters Our Family Traverse City Cherry Decaf Light Roast that was wrongly labelled and sold in over a dozen states including Kansas—each 12-ounce bag carries a best by date of Aug. 3 and a recall number of F-0666-2025.
