COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of the Plains announced that the Coalition for End Homelessness received a $3.2 million grant from HUD to support six local agencies providing housing assistance. The grant—designed to help those sleeping in cars or on the streets secure safe housing—will fund programs such as rapid rehousing and ongoing supportive services.  The Voice

  • Sedgwick County Emergency Communications confirmed that one person died in a crash on southbound I-135 near Lincoln on Friday morning.  KWCH

CRIME NEWS

  • A deputy in Wichita clocked a white Dodge Challenger driving 122 mph on Kellogg near Meridian shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday — the driver now faces a $675 fine plus court costs for speeding 62 mph over the limit.  KSN
  • A deputy from the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office caught a Dodge Challenger speeding at 122 MPH in a 60 MPH zone on Kellogg near Meridian earlier this week—an act deemed reckless and a danger to lives.  KWCH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Student Government Association will host a forum on April 3 at 6 p.m. in room 233 at the Rhatigan Student Center—students can hear candidate Jia Wen Wang and candidate Amy Nguyen, ask their questions, and stream the event online. There is only one official ticket available.  The Sunflower

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • KDOT will begin patching work on Kellogg from Hillside to Webb Road on Sunday night, March 30, using sealing patches and permanent pavement markings from (7 p.m. to 6 a.m.) Sunday through Thursday. Motorists should plan for lane and ramp closures, minor delays, and a reduced speed limit of 50 mph as the project is expected to finish in June at a cost of $1.4 million.  KSN
  • Wichita will enforce burn restrictions all April as the city halts new burn permits and suspends current ones until May 1—this ban applies to burning trees, brush, and yard waste but excludes outdoor cooking and ceremonial fires.  KWCH
  • During a congressional hearing, FAA acting administrator Chris Rocheleau said the agency must do better after a Wichita-to-DC flight collided with an Army helicopter in late January, killing 67. An AI review to check for similar risks near Reagan National should be finished in a few weeks—if risks are found, immediate measures will be taken.  KNSS
